Welcome to the prestigious Eigler Prize, a recognition that celebrates outstanding doctoral research and innovative contributions in the field of scanning probe microscopy. At STM’25 and future STM’x conferences, we want to honor a select group of PhD candidates and recent graduates who have demonstrated exceptional academic merit, impactful research, and the potential to advance their discipline. The Eigler Prize is a distinction that highlights your achievements on an international stage.

Who is Eligible

Eigler Prize is open to:

• Recent PhD graduates (graduation date after June 30^th, 2023)
• Current PhD candidates nearing completion of their thesis

Key Benefits

How to Apply

• Candidates may be nominated by their PhD advisor
• Nominations should include the following:
  • A nomination letter from the PhD advisor
  • A detailed abstract of the applicant’s research including a personal statement
    (2 page maximum, written by the applicant)
  • A CV highlighting the applicant’s academic achievements
• Submission Deadline: March 1^st 2025
• The documents must be submitted online via the Eigler Prize menu on the conference website. A login account is needed to access the submission portal.

Selection process

Applicants should submit an abstract for their presentation at the STM’25 conference. In parallel, the PhD advisor should submit the nomination to the Eigler Prize submission portal , as indicated above. A panel of experts in the field will select five finalists out of all applications. The five finalists will be invited to present their work at our prominent Prize Session, held during the STM’25 conference. The awardee of the Eigler Prize will be selected among the finalists who presented their research at the prize session.

*Travel support will be provided for all selected finalists.
